You have found a selection of texts containing very important
information about development for AmigaOS. They also contain old
and NEW rules for good development. Adhering to these rules is
vital for future enhancements to the OS and for portability to new
CPU architectures. READ THEM! Any violation of these rules will
reduce the chances that your SW will run on an Amiga of the next
generation faster than you can say "Broken".
Amiga Technologies will no longer tolerate knowingly any violation
of safe established and specified programming practices. Hacks,
fiddling with undocumented features, empirical programming, and the
like will definitely make your SW and probably more crash on a
future Amiga.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
We plan to set up a public "black list" of incompatibilities and
bad development practices for all products related to the Amiga,
old or new. Please support this effort and inform us about known
problems with detailed bug reports! <bugs@amiga.de> is the
appropriate bug report email address.
These texts will be updated and improved to keep you up to date
once in a while. Note well, that these texts may not be the final
word about things, even though they should give a strong indication
of where to go.
NOTE: All of the information in this directory is copyrighted but freely
redistributable in unmodified form. You may give it to anyone
who might need it!
You may want to check periodically if some documents have been
updated by looking at their Id within the first few lines. Some
rules and hints may get a lot more precise in future versions of
the documents. So always try to play it safe if you ecounter
something that feels fuzzy to you. Software and hardware
development is often an evolving craft dealing with evolving
things, so try to look ahead and stay future compatible. Feedback
is very welcome. If you have any questions, please include a copy
of the Id of the document you are referring to.
